Garden Route golf
The sunny weather and stunning nature make Cape Town a popular golfing destination. No wonder the country has so many golf champions! If you fancy teeing off towards Table Mountain, there are plenty of options and a variety of spectacular greens in the immediate surroundings.
Views of the Kogelberg nature reserve
The golf course of the Arabella Country Estate is the first on the Garden Route from Cape Town. The 18-hole course was designed by the famous designer Peter Matkovich and is one of the best in the nation. The views are equally marvellous: golfers look out over the Kogelberg nature reserve, a calm river and a clear-blue lagoon. Challenges include many tricky obstacles consisting of sand and water. Play to the end of the course for the ultimate reward: the 18th hole has won the title of the best final hole in all of South Africa!
Sea breeze on The Links
Near the coastal town of George, you’ll find the Fancourt Golf Estate which features various courses, each with their own unique character. The Links at Fancourt, for example, is extremely challenging, designed, among others, by Gary Player, one of South Africa’s most famous golfers. Building the fairways took no less than 700,000 cubic metres of soil to create a perfect rolling landscape and the result is a true masterpiece. This course always comes with a brisk sea breeze, making a hole-in-one even more of a challenge!
Golfing on cliffs
The fairways and greens of Pezula Golf Estate are located in astoundingly beautiful surroundings on top of the cliffs of Knysna. On one side you’ll see the Indian Ocean, while the other offers views of the Knysna lagoon. The 18-hole course has won a variety of awards and is also very competitive. It’s even suitable for the less experienced golfer: each hole offers a tee that best suits your level of expertise.
